Want to fall in love in four minutes and 24 seconds?
If you are over the age of 30, you have probably heard this T. Rex song at least a million times. It has spent years in heavy rotation on classic rock stations (before they were called "classic"), and has just enough of an innocuous groove that it blends into the background of grocery stores and doctor's offices despite its (supposedly) overtly sexual lyrics. If I had to rate it, I would rate it favorably, even while admitting that it is just a little bit boring.
What is not boring however, is the utterly compelling performance of Marc Bolan in this 1971 video. It's hard to take your eyes off him long enough to notice that there are actually 3 other guys playing in the band, not to mention a skimpily clad gal hunched over a motorcycle who pops into the background off and on. She is just a dumb distraction from Marc Bolan's prance, his swagger, his red satin blazer, green bell bottoms and giant white guitar. He's got about 7 or 8 moves that he cycles through, and they are all scrumptious.
Do you remember that study from a few years ago, where you could supposedly fall in love with somebody after asking them 36 questions? This is a lot quicker.
Meanwhile, I'm still thinking...
